Marino Sato will race for Trident in this year’s Formula 2 championship, completing the 22-driver grid for the upcoming campaign.
Sato, 20, stepped up to Formula 2 for the final few rounds of 2019, racing for Campos, but was unable to score a point.
He nonetheless claimed last season’s EuroFormula Open title and previously raced in the European Formula 3 Championship.
He joins Williams F1 tester Roy Nissany at Trident.
“I’m happy to be joining Trident for Formula 2 in the 2020 season,” said Sato.
“I really appreciate everyone who is involved to make this happen. To be racing in here will mean a lot for me, and of course for the future as well so I can’t wait to get started.”
Team Manager Giacomo Ricci added: “Marino is a young driver with limited experience in a very competitive championship like FIA Formula 2.
“Our technical staff was positively impressed by the quality of his work in the post-season test carried out at Yas Marina last December and will provide its best efforts to help him grow up during the season.”
