The #11 and #18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota teams of Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch and the #95 Leavine Family Racing Toyota team of Christopher Bell, a team with a technical alliance with JGR, each were docked 10 owner and driver points for an issue with the cars’ noses in inspection Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The cars were in violation sections 2.20 (Assembled Vehicle Overall Rules), 20.4 (Body) and 20.4.2 (Surface Conformance) of the 2020 NASCAR rule book. All three cars, along with the #19 and #20 JGR entries of Martin Truex Jr. and Erik Jones, had body filler on their cars Friday. That issue resulted in all five cars losing practice time in opening practice Friday.
Busch, Hamlin and Bell also will have to drop to the back for the start of the Pennzoil 400 on Sunday. Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet driver Chase Elliott also will have to start in the back Sunday, because his car failed inspection twice Saturday.
