Mahindra Racing has confirmed that Pipo Derani and Sam Dejonghe will represent the team at next weekend’s Formula E rookie test in Marrakesh.
The pair will take the seats of full-time drivers Jerome d’Ambrosio and Pascal Wehrlein on Sunday after the running of the Marrakesh E-Prix, completing Formula E’s only in-season test session of the present campaign.
Derani – a frontrunner in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with Action Express Racing – previosly completed a private test with the Indian marque in 2018 and expressed his excitement at the opportunity ahead:
“The opportunity to test again for Mahindra Racing at the Marrakesh test is one that I am very much looking forward to making the most of it,” he said.
“Being able to contribute to a proven race winning team like Mahindra is the perfect introduction to Formula E and I am very grateful to the team.”
In the second seat, Dejonghe will continue his work with the Banbury-based team and will participate in a third consecutive test with the squad:
“I’m very happy to be joining the team again for the rookie test for the third time,” added Dejonghe. “It’s always an honour to drive for Mahindra Racing.
“I want to put my simulator experience into practice on the track, so I’m really looking forward to the test in Marrakesh.”
Five other drivers have officially been confirmed for next weekend’s rookie test, with inaugural W Series champion Jamie Chadwick testing with Jaguar, Alice Powell with Envision Virgin, Joel Eriksson with GEOX Dragon, and Mitsunori Takaboshi and Jann Mardenborough with Nissan e.dams.
