Felipe Massa says he is under the impression that drivers will have a far greater say in their own strategies as they understand the level of grip remaining in the Pirelli tyres.
In previous years, drivers have often relied on strategists working in the garage or back at the factory to suggest the best time for a driver to pit.
This is something Massa believes will change in 2011 with drivers having a greater influence over their tyre strategy.
“Certainly the drivers will have more influence over when we make the pit stops in the race: of course there will be a plan regarding our strategy made before the event,” he wrote in his Ferrari column.
“But, I expect the situation to change far more quickly during the races with a driver feeling when tyre degradation is starting and choosing to pit early to get ahead of the car in front, or in the case of a safety car period.
“It will be very different and maybe more exciting for the spectators,” he added.
The Brazilian also spoke about the likliness of several stops during a race, something many other drivers have referred to during pre-season testing.
“With the high degradation we are seeing, the races will be very different and we will need to pit several times, whereas last year many races needed just one stop.”
The regulation which requires the top ten qualifiers to start on the same tyre they used in Q3 will also remain in place, this is another area Massa says could be affected with the high degrading Pirelli tyres.
“The difference between the soft and hard compounds is far greater which might even change the way you approach what tyre you will then use to start the race the next day,” he added.
