Kris Meeke has confirmed that talks between him and Toyota are ongoing, despite recently admitting that his WRC career “is finished”.
The five-time rally winner lost his Toyota seat at the end of last season and failed to find a vacancy elsewhere, leading him to call time on his WRC career and admit he’s looking for a new challenge.
However it seems Meeke hasn’t entirely given up on retaining some presence, confirming talks about a test role with Toyota are continuing.
“I’m still in talks with Toyota to be involved, maybe in some testing, we’ll see.
“I’m keeping my options open. I look at all the things that will give me passion.”
Meeke does however concede it’s unlikely to lead to any full-time WRC drive in the future, admitting he’s probably too old now.
“I think it’s not possible [to return]. At 40 years old, you know around this moment life can change a bit.
“I would have loved to continue, but the situation arrived like this and it’s like that. I’m realistic. I look to the future, there are many, many things to challenge me.”
