Andre Lotterer is confident that wins will follow for Porsche after the German marque’s impressive Formula E debut in Diriyah.
Porsche was one of two new teams to join Formula E for Season 6, with fellow German manufacturer Mercedes also joining the all-electric single-seater series.
Despite only two figures within the Porsche team holding experience in Formula E – Lotterer and race engineer Fabrice Roussel – the outfit showcased promising pace in Diriyah.
After showing encouraging pace in practice, Lotterer piloted his 99X Electric to seventh on the grid before advancing forward by five positions to take second place at the chequered flag and a podium on Porsche’s debut.
“We take [Race 1] as it was, which is an amazing debut for the Porsche team,” said Lotterer post-race.
“We all worked very hard, we came here, and we did our best. Second place is a great way to start and boost the confidence of the team… it was awesome.
“I thought about having a crack at Sam [Bird] to give him payback for Hong Kong last season!
“We weren’t sure on how much energy we had left, so I decided to bring it home safely. I’m sure our time will come soon with a win!”
Despite continuing to showcase strong pace, a post-race time penalty in Race 2 meant that Lotterer failed to replicate his Race 1 performance, taking 14th in the final classification.
