Panasonic Jaguar Racing team boss James Barclay believes that qualifying will be "crucial" to the British marque's success at this weekend's Berlin E-Prix.
The Jaguar Racing squad secured its maiden victory earlier this season in Rome, however, has been unable to replicate such results since April, with both Alex Lynn and Mitch Evans finishing outside of the top 10 in Paris while a grid penalty in Monaco robbed Evans of a front-row starting spot in the Principality.
Heading to the Flughafen Tempelhof Circuit this weekend for the penultimate round of Formula E's European leg of the 2018/19 calendar, Jaguar longs for its former success, however, pins a large portion of its hopes on a strong performance in qualifying:
"The team put in a spirited performance in Monaco to secure our second double-points finish of the season," said Barclay.
"The 10 place grid penalty for Mitch [Evans] was tough as we felt we could fight for our second win of the season from the front row. We have put that behind us now and can’t wait to get back racing in Berlin.
"Qualifying will again be crucial to our success. Our pace has been extremely positive and we’ll be taking that into the weekend with us.
"We learnt a lot from the race here last year and we hope that with the support of the Jaguar Germany family and a lot of our German-based partners, we can bring them something to cheer about."
Situated on the airstrip apron of the historic Tempelhof Airport, the Flughafen Tempelhof Circuit is a unique course on the Season 5 calendar, with concrete racing surfaces resulting in little grip while the abrasive and bumpy nature of the track promotes tyre wear.
Taking sixth place in Monaco after fighting through the field from 12th on the grid, Evans emphasised the importance of Jaguar ironing out any potential mistakes in the run-up to Berlin, keen to demonstrate the pace of his I-TYPE 3 package:
"The last few races have been a mixture of emotions but we managed to salvage some good points in Monaco and we have to look forward not back," said the Kiwi.
"In the run up to Berlin, the whole team are working really hard to bring that winning feeling back to Panasonic Jaguar Racing.
"The Tempelhof track is very unique and it is important we minimise any small mistakes as we have proven that we have one of the fastest racecars. Both Alex [Lynn] and I want to continue our points scoring momentum in Berlin."
Lynn, who secured his maiden points finish for Jaguar in Monaco after replacing Nelson Piquet Jr, added: "The Monaco race weekend was a positive one for me and the team. I achieved my best qualifying performance followed by my first championship points for Panasonic Jaguar Racing.
"It was great to put my side of the garage back in the points and a reward for all the hard work. As we head to Tempelhof for the penultimate European race of this season, I am working closely with my engineers to secure as many points as possible."
