Toro Rosso not picking up results it deserves – Alexander Albon

Toro Rosso rookie Alexander Albon believes the team is not picking up the results it deserves so far in 2019, after missing out on points in Azerbaijan.

Toro Rosso displayed eye-catching pace throughout practice in Azerbaijan and, while Albon dropped out in Q2, team-mate Daniil Kvyat qualified in sixth position.

But Kvyat lost ground early on and was forced to retire in the wake of a clash with Daniel Ricciardo; Albon, meanwhile, felt extended his first stint cost him several positions, as he came home 11th.

Toro Rosso has picked up only four points from the opening quartet of grands prix – its worst return at this stage since 2010 – and holds a low-key ninth spot in the Constructors’ Championship, in front of only Williams.

“At the minute we’re not getting the results we deserve,” said Albon.

“We've either qualified well, and Daniil proved in Azerbaijan the car is quick, and we have been quick in other races.

“Our issue is just having always one thing or another not going our way.

“We’ll see in Barcelona. We have the data from winter testing and we’ll see how we fare there.”

Albon nonetheless backed Toro Rosso to fight back quickly to avoid losing sight of the rest of the midfield teams.

“I think that, points wise, compared to pace wise, we don’t have the points that our pace shows,” he said.

“There’s definitively missed opportunities there, because the points don’t look great.

“But we can fight back. As I said, we know the car is quick and we’ll be strong in Barcelona.”
