Ferrari-backed youngster Callum Ilott is to make his Formula 1 test debut during May’s in-season running at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Ilott, third in last year’s GP3 Series, has been supported by Ferrari since the start of 2017 and for 2019 has also joined the newly-created Sauber Junior Team.
The British youngster is to race full-time for Sauber Junior Team by Charouz in Formula 2 this season.
Ferrari confirmed on Tuesday that Ilott will get his first taste of Formula 1 machinery when he gets behind the wheel of Alfa Romeo’s C38 in May.
Formula 1 will stay on after the Spanish Grand Prix for two days of post-race testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Ilott will be the second youngster to sample Alfa Romeo’s C38 this season, with fellow Ferrari Academy member Mick Schumacher to test in Bahrain next week.
Alfa Romeo also has two of Ilott’s Formula 2 rivals on its books, with BWT Arden's Tatiana Calderon holding the role of test driver and Ilott’s SJT by Charouz team-mate Juan Manuel Correa acting as the F1 team’s development driver.
