Three McLaren team members were taken to the medical centre for treatment after a small fire broke out in its garage during a filming day at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Friday.
McLaren – along with Racing Point and Williams – were present at the Spanish Grand Prix venue on the first of four days in-between the two pre-season tests.
Formula 1 teams are permitted two filming days per season in which running is restricted to 100km, with use of Pirelli’s prototype tyres mandatory.
“There was a small fire in the garage during the team’s private filming day,” a team spokesperson confirmed.
“The fire was quickly extinguished by the team, and circuit emergency services and medical teams attended immediately in support.
“Three team members were taken to the medical centre for treatment and were released shortly after.”
McLaren is currently stripping down the MCL34 to assess what damage – if any – the car sustained in the fire.
Formula 1 pre-season testing will resume at the same venue on Tuesday, and run through until Friday.
