Williams’ FW42 has finally made its on-track debut in Formula 1 pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Williams, which finished a distant last in the 2018 Constructors’ Championship, endured delays in readying its FW42.
It cancelled a planned shakedown before missing both of Monday and Tuesday’s test days, leaving it on the back foot compared to its rivals.
The FW42 arrived in Barcelona early on Wednesday morning and it was fired up during the first four-hour session, but was not yet ready to join the action.
Russell brought the car out for an installation lap shortly before 14:30, following a post-lunch red-flag period caused by Haas’ Romain Grosjean stopping on track.
Williams has yet to communicate its intended run plan for Thursday.
Kimi Raikkonen topped the morning session for Alfa Romeo.
