Pascal Wehrlein powered to a maiden Formula E pole position at the Mexico City E-Prix, beating Lucas di Grassi to the top spot for Mahindra Racing.
Wehrlein, who made his debut in the all-electric single seater series in January's Marrakesh E-Prix, completed his initial qualifying run in Group Two, securing the second fastest time of the session by setting a 59.604s lap while Oliver Rowland ultimately set the pace for Nissan e.dams, edging the German racer by only 0.011s.
Completing the top six drivers after the group qualifying stages, BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Antonio Felix da Costa opened proceedings in the Super Pole shootout, posting a competitive 59.819s lap time which Sebastien Buemi, who was the second runner of the session, failed to match.
Lucas di Grassi, who was denied pole position in Santiago after being disqualified from qualifying, quickly secured redemption in Mexico City, powering to provisional pole position with a 59.653s lap which fellow countryman Felipe Massa was unable to beat as the fourth runner.
While di Grassi's lap time was competitive, Wehrlein demonstrated that there was still pace to be found in the Mexican capital, demolishing the Season Three Formula E champion's time by 0.306s.
Rowland, who was unable to match his earlier pace, trailed Wehrlein by 0.461s to settle into fourth, with di Grassi and Massa securing second and third on the grid while da Costa and Buemi were fifth and sixth.
Completing his first qualifying run in Group Two alongside Wehrlein, Alexander Sims missed out on a spot in the Super Pole shootout, ending up as the seventh fastest driver while DS Techeetah's Jean-Eric Vergne was eighth fastest.
Edoardo Mortara, who was second fastest in FP1, was ninth in the second Venturi while Oliver Turvey completed the top 10 with a quick qualifying run that was 0.154s adrift of Sims, despite having limited running in second practice.
Nelson Piquet Jr outpaced Mitch Evans in the Panasonic Jaguar Racing camp, with the inaugural Formula E champion qualifying in 11th while Evans only managed 18th on the grid.
Andre Lotterer, who struggled for pace in practice all morning, only managed 12th in qualifying in the second DS Techeetah while Tom Dillmann was 13th.
Series debutant Felipe Nasr, who replaces Maximilian Gunther, fronted a 14-15 qualifying result for GEOX Dragon, finding a 0.083s advantage over Jose Maria Lopez while Gary Paffett was 16th for HWA.
Robin Frijns fronted what was a dismal qualifying for Envision Virgin Racing, with the Dutchman setting the 17th fastest time while team-mate Sam Bird failed to complete a lap after his customer Audi e-tron FE05 broke down before his flying lap in Group One which means that the championship leader will start from last place.
Jerome d'Ambrosio experienced another lacklustre qualifying in the second Mahindra, ending the session in 17th after being hampered by Bird's breakdown and was followed Stoffel Vandoorne and Daniel Abt who were both far off the pace.
