Jerome d'Ambrosio believes that Mahindra Racing should not be aiming for a result any lower than a podium finish at this weekend's Mexico City E-Prix, with the Indian marque aiming to maintain its 100% podium record in the current 2018/19 campaign.
D'Ambrosio, who forms one half of Mahindra's all-new Season Five driver lineup, has so far enjoyed a successful season with the squad, taking third place in Ad Diriyah and victory in Marrakesh to occupy second place in the Drivers' Championship, trailing leader Sam Bird by two points.
Combining d'Ambrosio's form with Pascal Wehrlein's second-place finish at the Santiago E-Prix in what was his first full Formula E race, Mahindra currently sits in second in the Teams' Standings, 12 points behind Envision Virgin Racing.
“We’ve had a couple of different style tracks so far this season and the car has been working well, so I expect it to work just as well in Mexico," said d'Ambrosio, who won the inaugural Mexico City E-Prix in Season Two when driving for Dragon.
"We’ve had three straight podiums collectively as a team and we shouldn’t be aiming for anything less than that this weekend.
"Pascal [Wehrlein] and myself have already shown that we can fight at the front and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
Wehrlein, who will make his third E-Prix start in Mexico City this weekend, echoed his team-mate's confidence in preparation for the fourth race of the season, believing that his #94 M5Electro is capable of any result:
“I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the car and going racing again," he said.
"I feel confident with the performance of the M5Electro and the team; the results have been good so far, but there’s always room for improvement.
"Although I’m familiar with Mexico, it’s a new track layout and I’ve been working hard in the simulator to get up to speed. In terms of a realistic race result – anything is realistic!”
Dilbagh Gill, Team Principal of Mahindra Racing, hailed the team's start to Season Five as one of its most successful in Formula E and is targeting a double podium finish for the team in Mexico:
“This has been one of the most successful starts to a season Mahindra Racing has had and we must take the momentum and confidence forward to Mexico.
"We have a competitive package, so now we must focus on consistently finishing in the points.
"We’ve seen both Jérôme and Pascal on the podium individually, but of course we’d like to see them both up there representing India together and Mexico could be the race to make that happen if we get the set-up correct.”
Formula E's fifth season of competition will continue in Mexico City at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit on February 16.
