Carlos Sainz Jr. received his first taste of McLaren’s MCL33 during Wednesday morning’s action at the Yas Marina Circuit, as others also joined their new teams.
Sainz Jr. was given permission to link up with McLaren, having spent 2018 at Renault on loan from Red Bull’s scheme, and got some early laps in the orange-liveried machine.
Ferrari protégé Charles Leclerc and long-term Red Bull junior Pierre Gasly also joined their 2019 teams, though both have already tested for their respective squads before.
For Leclerc it was his first public appearance in the SF71H, having participated in a filming day in the summer, while Gasly got his first taste of the Red Bull RB14.
Elsewhere Daniil Kvyat made his Toro Rosso return, while Artem Markelov was handed more track time with Renault, and Louis Deletraz racked up his first laps in an F1 car for Haas.
Leclerc is fastest three hours into running, with Gasly second.
