Red Bull junior Dan Ticktum is set to make his Formula 2 debut at this weekend’s season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Ticktum finished runner-up to Mick Schumacher in this year’s European Formula 3 Championship and last weekend secured back-to-back victories at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix.
Ticktum is poised to compete in the Japan-based Super Formula category next year, with Toro Rosso expected to recruit Alexander Albon as Daniil Kvyat’s team-mate in Formula 1.
But the 19-year-old Briton will sample Formula 2 at the upcoming event in Abu Dhabi, replacing Formula E-bound Maximilian Gunther at Arden, as per the championship’s entry list.
Gunther, who claimed victory at the Silverstone Sprint Race, has already signed a deal to compete in the upcoming Formula E campaign with Dragon Racing.
Mercedes-backed George Russell, who will step up to Formula 1 with Williams in 2019, holds a 37-point advantage over Albon in the standings, with 48 points up for grabs.
