Triple Formula 1 World Champion Niki Lauda has left Vienna General Hospital, two-and-a-half months after undergoing a lung transplant.
Lauda missed the pre-summer Grands Prix in Germany and Hungary, before undergoing the procedure in early August.
On Wednesday a statement released by the hospital confirmed that the 69-year-old had been discharged, and was in a “generally good condition” but cautioned that he has several weeks of “intensive rehabilitation” ahead.
Doctors confirmed at the time that his transplant was not related to his near-fatal accident at the 1976 German Grand Prix.
Lauda, World Champion in 1975, 1977 and 1984, has held the role of non-executive Chairman at Mercedes’ Formula 1 team since 2012.
