The Court of Milan has ordered Santino Ferrucci and his backers to pay €502,000 to the Trident team, with which he raced in Formula 2.
Ferrucci – who still retains his Haas Formula 1 development role – graduated to Formula 2 mid-2017 and remained with the Italian operation into 2018.
But he was suspended for two rounds in the wake of a sequence of events at July's Silverstone event, culminating in him deliberately hitting team-mate Arjun Maini on the slowdown lap.
Trident terminated its contract with Ferrucci, criticised his “unsportsmanlike” behaviour and announced its intention to commence legal action over alleged non-payments.
On Monday the team confirmed that the Court of Milan had issued an order of payment against Ferrucci and an American company represented by his father, Michael, to the amount of €502,000, plus interest and legal fees.
“Trident Motorsport confirms its intention to proceed with any legal action in order to obtain compensation for all damages suffered, well above the amount so far retained, as interim measure, by the Court,” read a statement.
Ferrucci was replaced at Trident by Alessio Lorandi.
Ferrucci has since competed in IndyCar with Dale Coyne Racing.
