Ferrari’s ‘door is always open’ to Mick Schumacher

Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene has said the doors at Maranello will "always be open" to Mick Schumacher should he want to race in Formula 1 someday.

Schumacher, son of seven-time world champion Michael, currently competes for Prema Theodore Racing in the European F3 series and sits second in the standings having recently taken a clean sweep of three victories in one weekend.

Whilst the 19-year-old is a few years away from F1, Arrivabene said he would welcome Schumacher into the Ferrari family, but didn't wish to pressure him into doing something he, or his family, didn't want.

"Concerning Mick Schumacher, the most important thing is to let him grow without giving pressure,” said Arrivabene.

"The recent results were very, very good and I wish to him a great career. With a name like this, that wrote the historical pages of the Ferrari history, I think the door at Maranello is always open of course, but it is a Schumacher family decision.

“Let the guys have fun. I always repeat this [to junior drivers] to be focused, concentrated, but at the same time have fun and to grow up slowly but certainly. Then we will see about the future. How can you say no, in Maranello, to a name like this?”

Schumacher recently attended the Italian Grand Prix as a guest of Ferrari, where he presented Kimi Raikkonen with the pole position award.
