Channel 4 will continue to act as the terrestrial broadcaster of Formula 1 in the United Kingdom next season, and will show the British Grand Prix live.

BBC and Sky began a race-sharing deal in 2012 that involved the pay-per-view broadcaster showing each Grand Prix live, and the terrestrial broadcaster showing half of the events live, and the other half in a highlights package.

Channel 4 took over the BBC’s part of the contract for the 2016 season though shortly after it was confirmed that Sky Sports had secured exclusive live rights from 2019 through 2024.

On Wednesday Channel 4 and Sky announced that it had concluded a content partnership deal between both networks, with one outcome being the continuation of Formula 1 on the former.

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to establish such an exciting and innovative partnership with Sky which will ensure that the British Grand Prix and highlights of the 2019 Formula 1 Championship remain available on free-to-air television for UK viewer,” said Channel 4 Chief Executive Officer Alex Mahon.

It's expected that Channel 4 will continue to produce its own coverage with the existing presenter line-up of David Coulthard, Steve Jones, Eddie Jordan and Lee McKenzie remaining in place.
