Aston Martin has made several changes to its Formula 1 leadership, naming Andy Cowell as Team Principal and moving Mike Krack to a revised role.
Cowell succeeded Martin Whitmarsh as CEO of Aston’s F1 squad in October and the former Mercedes engine guru has been tasked with moulding the British marque into a championship-calibre team.
In 2024, Aston made backwards progress, suffering from development issues and scoring 94 points compared to 280 the year before and former Technical Director Dan Fallows lost his position as a result.
Aston Martin commits to organisational changes
Leadership changes are being made as Aston has split its aerodynamics, engineering and performance departments into two separate operations: trackside and AMR Technology Campus.
Leading it all will be CEO Cowell, who takes on the mantle of Team Principal in the process.
Former Team Principal Krack takes on a new role as Chief Trackside Officer and will be responsible for leading the trackside operations.
Chief Technical Officer Enrico Cardile, who has now taken up office at Aston Martin following a period of gardening leave from Ferrari, will lead the AMR Technology Campus team back at Silverstone.
In addition, Cardile will oversee the design and build process for all Aston Martin F1 machines.
Cowell is hopeful the changes being made at Aston Martin will help develop the team into an F1 winner.
The organisational restructuring is hoped to complement the brand-new Silverstone headquarters and the team’s transformation into a Honda-powered works team in 2026.
“I have spent the last three months understanding and assessing our performance, and I’ve been incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team,” said Cowell.
“With the completion of the AMR Technology Campus and our transition in 2026 to a full works team, alongside our strategic partners Honda and Aramco, we are on a journey to becoming a Championship-winning team.
“These organisational changes are a natural evolution of the multi-year plans that we have scheduled to make and I’m incredibly excited about the future.”
McCullough changing roles
One final change in Aston Martin’s leadership comes with Tom McCullough.
McCullough’s time as Performance Director is no more with him being assigned a new, as-yet-unnamed leadership role within the Aston Martin group.
His new role will see him tasked with expanding the marque’s efforts in broader racing categories.
