Bob Bell is to reduce his involvement with Renault’s Formula 1 team, moving aside from his role as Chief Technical Officer to take up a part-time advisory role.
Bell re-joined Renault upon its return to Formula 1 as a works team pre-2016 and was tasked with establishing a solid technical restructure in anticipation of its gradual expansion.
Under Bell’s tutelage Renault improved from ninth to sixth in the standings and this year holds fourth place, having already exceeded its 2017 points total.
Bell was part of the technical structure during his lengthy first spell with Renault that included the 2005/06 title double, and also spent time working for Mercedes and Marussia.
Bell will fulfil his new role on a part-time basis, reporting to team boss Cyril Abiteboul, and he will not be replaced “now a fully functional and agile collaboration between Viry and Enstone has been implemented.”
“In just two and a half years he has helped to make Renault a genuine and respected points scorer,” said Abiteboul.
“He’s also a massive part of the heart and soul of the team and a real motivator for everyone to draw together and get the best from themselves and each other.”
