Marc Marquez says he is sure there can be a “good relationship” between himself and Italian MotoGP fans ahead of his switch to Ducati in 2025.
Marquez has had a frosty relationship with the Italian crowd since his relationship with Valentino Rossi soured, most notably after the incident in the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix.
Despite Marquez joining Gresini and Ducati, an Italian team and manufacturer, for 2024, there was still loud booing heard after he took victory in Misano.
The booing Marquez faces has been condemned by future teammate Francesco Bagnaia, who said he didn’t want any MotoGP rider to face the jeering that the Spanish rider has.
Marquez admitted that he felt nothing changed in 2024, but that the relationship between himself and the Italian fans “gets better” each time.
“For me this year nothing changes,” Marquez said via Motorsport.com.
“I always try to work hard, I won a race in Misano with the Gresini team.
“Let’s see if this year I can get a good result at Mugello in front of the Italian fans.
“In the end the relationship with the Italian fans has had difficult moments, but each time it gets better.
“I have always tried to be a professional and I have always done my part. I raced for an Italian team, Gresini, which gave me back my confidence.
“I race for an Italian manufacturer, I am sure that there will be a good relationship.”
Marc Marquez: MotoGP riders now “are friendlier”
At the ‘Campioni in Festa’ event in Bologna, Marquez was asked about the difference between the current era of MotoGP riders in comparison to the era of Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner.
“The guys I race with now are friendlier!” He explained.
“It seems like yesterday when I arrived here, at 20, as a young inexperienced, while now I am one of the most experienced.
“I really like this. Everyone has their own career and their own story, but all the young guys arrive in MotoGP with great determination and we work to be ready to fight with them, who are very strong.”
