Fernando Alonso is set to start Formula 1’s Austrian Grand Prix from the pit lane after McLaren withdrew his MCL33 from parc ferme conditions.
Alonso was set to line up from 13th on the grid at the Red Bull Ring, having moved up one position from where he qualified due to Charles Leclerc’s gearbox penalty.
The FIA confirmed on Sunday that McLaren has removed his car from parc ferme conditions in order to fit a different specification front wing, as well as a third MGU-K of the year.
As a result, Alonso is poised to begin the 71-lap race from the pit lane.
The remaining drivers will all move up a position on the starting grid.
