BMW‘s Andreas Roos reflected on an “incredibly successful week’ after their maiden IMSA win at Indianapolis and first WEC podium at Fuji.
Head of Motorsport at the Bavarian manufacturer reflected positively on their recent breakthrough successes, after scoring their first IMSA SportsCar Championship 1-2 finish at the Battle on the Bricks.
One week beforehand at Fuji Speedway, they claimed their first FIA World Endurance Championship podium finish with their #15 BMW M Hybrid V8.
BMW works with two different partners in each programme – Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in IMSA and the W Racing Team in WEC.
Across these two six-hour endurance races, they gained success upon the coveted podium steps.
Roos said: “This has been an incredibly successful week for our LMDh programme with the first podium in the FIA WEC and the first 1-2 finish in the IMSA series.
“Congratulations to BMW M Team RLL, which, despite the difficult season so far, has continued to push together with our BMW M Motorsport engineers, making this great success possible.
“I am very pleased that we have now managed to convert the potential that our BMW M Hybrid V8 has shown frequently this season into corresponding top results twice in a row.
“This is the deserved reward and a great motivation for everyone involved in our LMDh project.”
Heavy rainfall struck during the opening phase of the Battle on the Bricks which dried in the race’s second-half.
The #25 BMW fought their way into the lead after four racing hours completed.
Driver Nick Yelloly successfully fended off Nick Tandy’s #6 Porsche Penske 963 and by the end, the #24 BMW joined in a commanding 1-2 formation.
At Indianapolis, Philipp Eng and Jesse Krohn won after 219 laps as Dries Vanthoor, Raffaele Marciello and Marco Wittmann took second place in Japan.
