An extra important qualifying session was held on Saturday afternoon at The Milwaukee Mile, with a single outing setting the grid for both IndyCar races being held as part of the double-header weekend.
Team Penske once again showed its pace on oval courses, sweeping poles for the two races of the weekend. Scott McLaughlin was fastest on his first lap, and Josef Newgarden set the best time on his second lap, corresponding to Sunday’s second event.
Newgarden is one of multiple drivers with a grid penalty for the first race on Saturday, however, so he will start from tenth before taking his spot on the front for the second race on Sunday.

Drivers struggled with a lack of grip throughout the afternoon, and the shallow banking led to drivers sliding around and having to catch their cars to prevent a crash. All did so successfully, and there were no crashes during the entire session.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing struggled more than others, however, and all three members of the team will start from the very back of the field for both races.
Race one of the weekend takes place later in the day on Saturday, with a start time of 5:00 PM central time. Race two takes place Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
