Rodin’s Voisin claims maiden F3 pole position around Spa

Voisin clamined his first ever F3 pole position in Spa.

Rodin’s Voisin delivered a maiden pole position on a session affected by traffic in the last run. Dunne and Fornaroli completed the top three.

Championship contender Luke Browning was the first one to set a time for the qualifying session around Spa-Francorchamps, setting a first reference time of 2:06.465

Tuukka Taponen was stepping into the ART car of Nikola Tsolov, who was unable to compete in this event due to a race ban imposed by the FIA earlier this year.

Cian Shields was second after the first flying lap to complete a provisional Hitech 1-2, followed by Noel Leon.

Nonetheless, major improvements and purple sectors were occurring on track, producing a big shake-up in the order.

Laurens Van Hoepen went into the provisional pole, with teammate Christian Mansell in second fastest and Nikita Bedrin rounding up the top three with another impressive lap for AIX racing.

Santiago Ramos was in fourth, with Gabriele Mini in fifth for Prema. Taponen was able to climb into eight during his first-ever qualifying run in Formula 3.

Only the Hitech trio was out on track while the rest of the field was on the pits to change tyres as they went for their second run.

Browning suffered a big snap which meant he had to abandon that lap and kept down into P20.

With 11 and a half minutes to go, all the cars were on the pitlane after the Hitech trio ended their respective laps.

The top 15 went out with a bit less than 11 minutes to go after changing to a new set of tyres and doing the needed car tweaks for the last and definitive run of the session.

Leon was gaining a lot into the middle sector as he was the first driver to finish his lap, ending up first and almost one second clear of the previous time set by Mansell.

Nonetheless, Sebastian Montoya went briefly fastest but was quickly overcome by Leo Fornaroli.

A few seconds later, Alex Dunne went second fastest, only behind Callum Voisin who took provisional pole for Rodin.

Arvid Linblad got his laptime deleted, as he was dropped from ninth to 27th

Sector three was a big mess with all 30 cars crowding the entire road and even creating a four-wide cars situation which seemed more like a Safety Car restart.

This situation meant that a bunch of drivers weren’t able to cross the line before the time ran out, meaning they were not allowed to complete another lap.

Even if the drivers who were first on the pack were improving into sector one, it wasn’t the case for the following two sectors and the overall lap time, so the time charts were pretty much unaffected.

Voisin took his first pole even without a final flying lap, with Dunne and Fornaroli completing the top three.

Montoya was in fourth for Campos Racing, with Leon in fifth Esternsorn in sixth, and Luke Browning in a disappointing seventh for his championship options.

Sami Meguetounif,Tim Tramnitz and Ramos completed the top 10 of the session, with Santiago Ramos on the Sprint race front row and Gabriele Mini in the reverse grid pole.
