Dale Coyne Racing announced on Wednesday that Toby Sowery will return to the team for two more races this season.
The 28-year-old has had experience in IndyNXT and sports cars in recent years, and made his IndyCar debut a couple weeks ago with DCR in Mid-Ohio.
In that race, Sowery qualified 24th and moved his way up to 13th by the checkered flag which matched the team’s best result so far this year.
He will return to the #51 for the races in Toronto and Portland, which are the two remaining road course events on the 2024 schedule.
“It’s amazing to be back with Dale Coyne Racing,” said Sowery. “Having such a strong debut has certainly set our hopes and expectations fairly high.
“Now that I’ve got a weekend under my belt, I feel I’ve got foundations to build on and that’s definitely the goal. I’ve not been to Toronto or Portland in a very long time, but I really enjoyed those events and atmosphere previously.
“Portland is also where I got my Indy NXT win, so it will be great to go back there. I can’t wait to finish off the road courses in the #51 for DCR.”
For the Toronto race this weekend, Sowery will drive alongside Hunter McElrea, who will be making his own IndyCar debut during the event.
For the season so far, DCR has fielded nine different drivers in its two entries, which is a record for the team’s 41-year history.
Sowery’s announcement fills out the #51 for the remaining road and street courses, leaving the three oval weekends yet unconfirmed.
The team is expected to have Katherine Legge behind the wheel for those rounds, as she has done for the other oval events run so far this season.
