Felipe Fraga was the fastest driver in the second and final free practice session at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Chevrolet Grand Prix.
The second of two 90-minute free practice sessions marked the final chance for teams to continue their preparation ahead of qualifying later today.
Lap times were close between the top LMP2 competitors who will fight for the overall pole position, as well as the GTD and GTD Pro front-runners.
Mosport Park is considered as a fast, flowing circuit which drivers thoroughly enjoy competing around, especially those in the mostly-Oreca 07 field of LMP2 cars.
During the early minutes of the session, Seth Lucas spun his #20 MDK by High Class Racing Oreca 07 at Turn Five, a double-right hander, although he continued further without drama.
Luis Perez Companc of the #88 Richard Mille AF Corse Oreca also spun at Turn 5 later in the session.
By the end of the session, Felipe Fraga set a 1:08.221 lap time which was the quickest in the field in the #74 Riley Oreca.
In second position was the #8 Tower Motorsports Oreca after Renger van der Zande set a 1:08.351.
Colin Braun put the #04 Crowdstrike Racing with APR Oreca in third owing to a 1:08.562 as the #2 United Autosports USA Oreca was just 0.032 further back after Ben Hanley put a 1:08.673 lap time.
The #99 AO Racing ‘Spike the Dragon’ rounded off the top-five after Louis Deletraz drove a quickest lap time of 1:08.673, having retained his outright quickest lap so far in FP1.
In GTD Pro category, it was the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 which was fastest after Jack Hawksworth completed a 1:14.821.
Last year’s GTD champions Paul Miller Racing followed as Madison Snow’s 1:14.952 secured the #1 BMW M4 in second, followed by the #3 Corvette Racing Z06 GT3.R with Tommy Milner’s 1:15.148 lap time.
Corvette’s other GTD Pro car, the #4, took fourth position after Alexander Sims put a fastest lap of 1:15.488 on the timesheets.
Seb Priaulx landed ‘Rexy’ in fifth with the British driver setting a 1:15.578 in the #77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3.R.
Forte Racing’s #78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 was quickest in the GTD category as Loris Spinelli set a 1:15.665.
At just 0.015 seconds behind in second place, it was the #12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus owing to Frankie Montecalvo’s 1:15.680 lap time.
Mikael Grenier completed the top-three in GTD as he completed a fastest time of 1:15.701 in his #32 Korthoff/Preston Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3.
