Home hero Arvid Lindblad claimed his third win of the season on home soil to re-take third into the Formula 3 standings.
Lindblad took the lead from Noel Leon going into turn 1 as the top three got involved on a clean three-way wheel-to-wheel battle.
Leon, who lost position to Zagazeta during the battle during the first few corners of the race managed to re-gain second place into Maggots and Becketts.
Leo Fornaroli was close to stalling his car and got a terrible launch over the line, causing him to drop several places, from ninth on the grid to 17th.
Sophia Floersch and Mari Boya were the first drivers involved in incidents and going through the pitlane for a front-wing change.
Tommy Smith and Santiago Ramos also went into the pits right after reporting damage to their cars.
Some debris on the track summoned the first yellow flags, which briefly after got upgraded to a Virtual Safety Car.
The race got re-started by Lap 4 but was soon interrupted again due to an incident between Oliver Goethe and Max Esterson which provoked a full safety car procedure.
The race resumed in Lap 8, with championship leader Luke Browning going slow into Turn 4 and dropping to 25th.
Tim Tramnitz was the one causing the damage to Browning, including a front left puncture as Tramnitz locked up and went straight into the side of Browning’s Hitech car.
Both drivers had to go back to the pitlane for repairs, with Browning rejoining a lap behind and Tramnitz ultimately DNFing.
Goethe received a 10-second time penalty as the FIA found him predominantly to blame over his incident with Esterson.
During Lap 10, Dunne swept Wurz to take sixth position and overtook Mansell one lap later.
Nonetheless, the McLaren prospect was asked to give the position back and dropped back the two positions gained. When he tried to get the position back by overtaking Wurz, both made contact as Dunne tried to move into the outside.
This summoned another virtual safety car and forced Dunne to pit for a new front wing. Wurz was out of the race as he got stuck into the grass.
The race went green again in Turn 14, with Lindblad almost two seconds ahead of Leon.
On Lap 17, with only 2 to go, Montoya made a dive down the inside of Meguetounif at Turn 3 to secure eighth.
Going into the final lap, the ART teammates Christian Mansell and Nikola Tsolov were fighting over a P5 finish. Right behind, Mini was also trying to get his Alpine academy teammate Tsolov.
Tsolov pushed Mini out which almost made him crash. Ultimately, Mansell was able to keep the fifth spot at the chequered flag.
Nonetheless, Mansell received a five-second time penalty which dropped him outside the point-scoring zone.
Lindblad won in front of his home audience, with Leon and Zagazeta completing the podium for the sprint session.
