Alex Marquez has penned a brand-new two-year contract extension which will see him continue to compete with Gresini Ducati in MotoGP through the 2026 season.
Following a stint with Honda as both a works and satellite rider, Marquez moved over to the Faenza-based squad in 2023 and bagged two podiums in his debut term.
The Spaniard, who is the brother of eight-time champion Marc Marquez, also collected Sprint victories at Silverstone and Sepang, but he is awaiting a grand prix win.
But while Alex Marquez has been unable to match Marc’s results on the GP23 this season as he lies 10th in the championship, Gresini Ducati has opted to renew him.
The two Marquez brothers have combined this campaign to have the Italian side third in the Teams’ Championship, with Pramac and the factory Ducati teams ahead.
“Staying with Gresini was my main goal,” Alex Marquez said.
“Since I joined this team, my target has been to consistently get close to the best, and it’s something I haven’t achieved yet.
“The start of the season wasn’t what we hoped for, but the team is strong and I know where we can go.
“So, I just want to thank Nadia for the trust, and I’m sure we’ll soon repay her with some celebratory pineapple pizza.”
Gresini Racing owner Nadia Padovani was complimentary in announcing Marquez’s extension, stating: “Alex is our pupil.
“Since he joined two years ago, the synergy between him and the team has been incredible and has strengthened with each race.
“We know his potential; he has already shown it and just needs consistency.
“Renewing with him was an obvious move for us because we are aware of his value both on and off the track.
“The results will come this year too, I am absolutely certain of it.”
His older brother and team-mate Marc Marquez has been promoted to the factory Ducati ranks for 2025, leaving a space open at the Gresini team alongside Marquez.
