Berlin E-Prix race-winner Antonio Felix da Costa has said that the peloton style of race is one that shows a racing driver’s skill and mentality.
Speaking to Motorsport Week after his hugely-impressive victory around the Tempelhof circuit, da Costa said he gets enjoyment from the style, but appreciates it’s not everyone’s taste.
“I think these are the types of races are for real racers,” he said.
“There’s a lot of shoulder-rubbing and aggressive moves, and you have to really manage your risk reward well and I do enjoy that.
“Winning in Monaco, London, Saudi or Mexico means you have been the fastest driver that day.”
Da Costa did admit however that he feels that he needs to take his chances in this style of race to compensate for what he feels are shortcomings, personally and the team as a whole.
“Honestly, I don’t think I’m the fastest driver or we’re the fastest package in this, so we have to capitalise in these races with the tools I can find, but the other, bigger goal at the moment is still to find a bit more pace in qualifying.”
“We have one car in the team that is very heavily in the championship fight and I do everything to keep that going, but whenever I can, I still need to race for myself and we did that today.
“We work well together as a team, and when I felt it was the right time to go today, I was in the right place, I did go and it worked out.”
