DS Penske’s Jean-Éric Vergne topped the timesheets in both practice sessions ahead of today’s first part of the Misano E-Prix double-header.
The Frenchman led a Penske 1-2 in FP1, setting a time of 1:17.546s, just under two tenths of a second ahead of team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne. Nick Cassidy was third, with Jean Daruvala an impressive fourth, sandwiched by the second Jaguar TCS Racing of Mitch Evans, with Nico Müller rounding-up the top six.
Maserati MSG Racing’s Max Günther had a disappointing session, stopping out on track before managing to coast his car to the pits, having only completed five laps.
In FP2, Vergne was quickest again, setting a faster time of 1:17.482s, just two hundredths of a second ahead of NEOM McLaren’s Jake Hughes. Envision Racing’s Sebastian Buemi was third, with Cassidy fourth, but the Kiwi’s session ended in spectacular fashion, skidding into the wall after getting a wheel on the grass in an attempt to avoid a slowing Sam Bird.
Vandoorne was fifth, Evans sixth, Robin Frijns sevenths, Jake Dennis eighth, Bird ninth and Müller in the top ten once more.
In FP0, where each team ran one car with a rookie driver at the wheel, Taylor Bernard was quickest in the McLaren with a time of 1:18.762s, ahead of Penske of Robert Schwartzman. F2 title leader Zane Maloney was third in the Andretti, with his title rival Paul Aron eighth in the Envision.
Red Bull Junior driver Tim Tramnitz was fourth for ABT Cupra, with Matt Campbell fifth for Porsche, Mikel Ancona sixth for ERT, Jordan King seventh for Mahindra, Yann Ehrlacher ninth for Maserati, and Sheldon van der Linde 10th for Jaguar.
