Max Verstappen has won the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, 12.5 seconds ahead of team-mate Sergio Perez, who secured a Red Bull one-two finish at Suzuka.
A positive tyre offset paved the way for Carlos Sainz to charge through to the final podium place for Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc securing fourth.
Third on the grid didn’t transpire into a podium place for McLaren’s Lando Norris, who was resigned to completing the top five positions.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso fought hard to hold onto sixth place ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who engaged in a late race tussle for seventh and eighth.
Lewis Hamilton took ninth in the second Mercedes and home hero Yuki Tsunoda put on a feisty display to complete the points-paying positions for RB in 10th.
Daniel Ricciardo and Alex Albon were Lap One retirees after coming together into Turn 3 and Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu retired with a gearbox issue.
