Phil Hanson set the quickest lap time during second free practice as part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship weekend at Sebring’s historic 12-hour race.
The #85 JDC-Miller MotorSports Porsche 963 driver set a 1:48.149 during FP2 in preparation of the 12 Hours of Sebring, which takes place this Saturday 16 March.
Hanson’s time came after a smooth running in the Porsche customer GTP, a package which has proven to be a successful one in the hands of the Porsche Penske works team after their maiden win at the Daytona season-opener.
In second position was the gold #01 Cadillac Racing V-Series.R of Sebastien Bourdais, after he put a 1:48.295.
Third position in the GTP classification was taken by reigning champions Wehlen Cadillac Racing and their #31 V-Series.R after Pipo Derani completed a 1:48.483.
Louis Deletraz put the #40 WTRAndretti Acura ARX-06 in fourth with a 1:48.720 ahead of Mathieu Jaminet’s 1:49.012 in the #6 Porsche Penske 963.
In LMP2, Riley’s #74 Oreca 07 was at the top of the 13-strong category as Josh Burdon drove a best lap time of 1:52.078.
Occupied in second and third were the #04 Crowdstrike Racing by APR and the #52 PR1 by Inter Europol Oreca 07s who also reside in those positions within the LMP2 standings.
Toby Sowery put a 1:52.214 in the #04 Oreca ahead of the #52 which was driven to a 1:52.214 by Tom Dillmann.
In GTD Pro, reigning champions Vasser Sullivan were quickest with their #14 Lexus RC F GT3 – second in the combined order of both GTD classes – having been set the pace thanks to Jack Hawksworth’s 2:00.304.
Daytona 24 Hours winner Risi Competizione were second in GTD Pro owing to Davide Rigon’s lap time of 2:00.758.
Although a brief on-track stoppage for Rigon set off the sole red flag in the session.
Third place in the class was claimed by Olly Jarvis in the #9 Pfaff Motorsports McLaren 720S GT3 EVO, after he drove a 2:01.121 lap time.
Neither of Ford Multimatic’s Mustangs set a lap time.
Vasser Sullivan’s #12 GTD entrant was the quickest not only of its class, but over the entire combined field of GTDs and GTD Pros.
A 2:00.237 lap time was set by Parker Thompson as the second-quickest GTD was the #78 Forte Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, below the group of GTD Pro cars.
Loris Spinelli put a fastest time of 2:01.445 on the lapboard for the #78 with Mikael Grenier’s 2:01.478 in the #32 Team Korthoff Mercedes-AMG GT3 rounding off the top-three in the GTD category.
FP3 will continue the action from 7.45pm local (11.45pm GMT) with the final 1-hour and 30-minute free practice session.
