Robert Kubica has completed his first laps behind the wheel of Renault’s 2017 Formula 1 car, on day two of the Hungaroring test.
F1 teams have remained at the circuit after last weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix for the second and final in-season test.
F2 racer Nicholas Latifi drove for Renault on day one, with Kubica getting his first laps in a modern F1 machine on day two.
It is his first outing in a contemporary F1 car since his horrific rally crash six and a half years ago, which interrupted his career.
Earlier this year, Kubica completed runs in GP3 and Formula E cars, before two F1 tests in a Renault-liveried Lotus E20 from 2012 at Valencia and Paul Ricard.
On Tuesday, Kubica made his first appearance in the F1 paddock since winter testing in 2011, watching the first day of the Hungaroring test.
He has now returned to the F1 track for his first laps in a 2017 F1 car, completing several installation laps early in Wednesday’s morning session.
The 2008 Canadian GP winner was soon putting in timed laps in the RS.17. At the time of writing, he is currently P6 with a best time of 1:20.327 after several runs.
