DS Virgin Racing newcomer Alex Lynn and Mahindra racer Felix Rosenqvist set the pace in Saturday’s two practice sessions for the New York ePrix.
Ahead of the first of two Formula E races at the Brooklyn Street Circuit in Red Hook this weekend, the drivers took to the New York street track for practice.
The opening 45-minute session was topped by series rookie Alex Lynn, stepping in to replace Jose Maria Lopez – who is racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the Nurburgring.
He topped the busy session with a 1:05.977, finishing 0.172 seconds clear of his DS Virgin team-mate Sam Bird. Rosenqvist was next up.
Renault e.dams driver Nicolas Prost was fourth, with the Abt pair of Daniel Abt and title contender Lucas di Grassi in fifth and sixth.
Prost’s team-mate for the weekend, Pierre Gasly, finished 17th. He replaces championship leader Sebastien Buemi, who is also racing in the WEC this weekend.
Jean-Eric Vergne was one of several drivers to suffer an off-track excursion, while Mitch Evans clipped the wall in his Jaguar.
Rosenqvist hit the barriers in the 30-minute second session but finished at the top of the timesheets with a 1:02.423, three tenths ahead of team-mate Nick Heidfeld.
Prost was third, with Bird fourth and di Grassi fifth. Abt, Loic Duval, Evans and Robin Frijns were next, with Lynn completing the top 10.
Gasly ended the session in 15th as he continued to get to grips with Formula E machinery.
