British driver Alex Lynn has been confirmed as Jose Maria Lopez’s replacement at DS Virgin Racing for the New York ePrix weekend.
Lynn will make his Formula E debut in place of Lopez, who is unable to race in the New York double-header due to a clash with the FIA World Endurance Championship round at the Nurburgring.
Lopez, alongside Toyota WEC team-mate and championship leader Sebastien Buemi, will miss the New York round to compete at the Nurburgring 6 Hours.
Lynn, who competed in GP2 in 2015/16, alongside his role as Williams' development driver, joins Sam Bird in an all-British line-up for New York, having been Virgin’s reserve driver since at the start of 2017.
He has attended races with his reserve role and took part in shakedown at the Mexico City ePrix round, and will now get the opportunity to race.
“I’m delighted to be racing for the DS Virgin Racing team,” Lynn said.
“Formula E has always impressed me with its combination of advanced technology, iconic city centre locations and some of the best drivers in the world.
“We have a lot of testing and simulator work to do before the New York event, but I’m confident I can show what I’m capable of during my rookie debut in the Big Apple.”
