A leak across AlphaTauri’s social channels suggests the team will transition into ‘Visa Cash App Racing Bulls’ as part of its rebrand from the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Amid rumours that the team could be sold last year, it was revealed that the Faenza-based squad would change its name and forge a closer partnership with Red Bull.
In a bid to revive the team’s flailing fortunes, AlphaTauri began to adopt more car components from the sister side and will now also expand its presence in the United Kingdom by moving its aero department across to a facility within Milton Keynes, where Red Bull’s operation is housed.
Having run under the guise of Toro Rosso since Red Bull purchased the entry in 2005, the team evolved into AlphaTauri in 2020 to market the Austrian firm’s clothing brand.
However, AlphaTauri CEO Peter Bayer expressed last year that it would diverge back to a “generic” identity that would include sponsors aligned with Red Bull.
But approaching the launch of the 2024 cars from the beginning of next month, the revised moniker that the Italian camp will race under has not been publicly disclosed.
The FIA’s entry list for the 2024 campaign, published in December, listed the team’s chassis name as ‘RB’, with the official team name registered as Scuderia AlphaTauri RB.
It has been touted that the inclusion of ‘RB’ stood for ‘Racing Bulls’, with the RacingBulls.com domain being registered last July followed by a logo in November.
On Thursday ‘Visa Cash App RB’ was spotted as the revised handle on the team’s Instagram page, but it was removed and returned to its original AlphaTauri username.
This emerged after the VisaCashAppRB.com domain was purchased this month, hinting that Visa and CashApp have signed deals to title sponsor the ‘Racing Bulls’ F1 team.
The pending announcement continues Red Bull’s ties with American brands, following the launch of the RB19 in New York and the engine collaboration with Ford from 2026.
Visa, a multinational credit card company, will foray into F1 on a larger scale for the first time, while Cash App, a mobile payment service, has sponsored Red Bull since 2021.
Red Bull’s second-string squad will field Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda as its drivers. Meanwhile, ex-Ferrari Racing Director Laurent Mekies has become Team Principal in place of Franz Tost, who retired after 18 years at the helm at the end of last year.
