Lewis Hamilton says he is expecting a "nice Sunday drive" in the Monaco Grand Prix after qualifying a lowly P14 as he struggled for grip and then got caught out by a late yellow flag.
Hamilton was unable to pull a lap together during the opening 15 minutes of Q2 after reporting "no grip", adding "something is not right with the car." However on his final attempt, his first two sectors were good enough for a top-ten position, but upon entering the final sector, he was forced to back off as McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne ended up in the wall.
That meant Hamilton qualified 14th, but is likely to be promoted to 12th with penalties for McLaren's Jenson Button and Vandoorne.
"I'm not really sure the opportunity was there," Hamilton replied when asked how he felt about missing out on Q3. "I struggled with the car. I don't have much to say at the moment."
When told he was quick enough before the yellow flags, he added: "I don't know. It doesn't really matter does it. I got the yellow flag…deflated but I'll keep pushing tomorrow.
"That's pretty much the weekend done. Tomorrow I'll just be driving around in whatever position out of the top ten. I'll try to get as high as I can. It's going to be a nice Sunday drive tomorrow I reckon."
