Formula 2 racer Nicholas Latifi will carry out testing with the Renault Formula 1 team at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Wednesday.
The Canadian driver will sample the team’s 2017 F1 car, the RS.17, for the first time during the second and final day of Pirelli’s tyre test.
Pirelli has remained at the Spanish Grand Prix venue to complete testing and development of its 2018 tyres.
Latifi joined Renault as a test driver last year, as part of a “long-term programme”, and is currently sixth in the F2 standings.
He has previously completed private F1 tests for Mercedes and Renault (in a 2012 car), as well as completing an F1 demo last year.
“I am extremely honoured to get this opportunity and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the RS.17 at the same venue I’ve just been racing in F2,” he said.
“As test driver for the team I’ve completed a number of different aspects of my programme so far, but this is really something special.
“I’m looking forward to working with the team and Pirelli to deliver everything they require from the day.”
Renault’s F1 driver Jolyon Palmer was behind the wheel of the team’s RS.17 on Tuesday, the first day of the Pirelli tyre test. Toro Rosso has also remained in Spain to test with the tyre manufacturer.
