Despite missing out on victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel was voted Driver of the Day by the Formula 1 fans.
The Ferrari driver stormed into the lead of the race at the start but he was put on a different strategy to Lewis Hamilton.
Vettel opened up a small but comfortable advantage in the opening two stints on the soft tyre before going onto mediums for the last part of the race.
The German racer lost time at his final pitstop, with Hamilton completing his during the virtual safety car, and the Mercedes had the soft tyres for the last stint.
On his mediums, Vettel struggled to keep Hamilton behind him and lost the lead on the main straight, keeping the Mercedes in his sights but finishing 3.4 seconds behind.
The result means Vettel retains the lead in the drivers’ standings, with the gap to Hamilton cut to just six points.
Fans were able to pick their Driver of the Day from the half-way point of the race, with Vettel receiving the most votes.
It is Vettel’s third time winning the fan-voted award, after also getting the most votes in Australia and Bahrain.
