Sebastian Vettel broke the Albert Park lap record on his way to topping the timing screens during final practice for the Australian Grand Prix for Ferrari, outpacing nearest challenger Valtteri Bottas by almost half a second.
Vettel's 1:23.380, set on the ultrasoft tyre, put him 0.479s ahead of Mercedes' Bottas on the same tyre, with Lewis Hamilton just one hundredth adrift of his team-mate in third.
Kimi Raikkonen finished fourth fastest, six-tenths back, but encountered a puncture during the session which forced him to back off on one lap, which caused his engine to shut-off, much to his surprise.
Nico Hulkenberg surprised with the fifth fastest lap for Renault, albeit 1.6 seconds down on Vettel's best time, but that was enough to put him ahead of Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull.
Red Bull looked to struggle for pace which could be a concern for the Milton Keynes based team, Ricciardo 1.7s down, whilst Max Verstappen could only manage P12, aklmost three-seconds down.
The Dutch driver did however only manage seven laps after spending much of the session in the garage.
The two Haas cars of Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen were split by the two the Toro Rosso's of Carlos Sainz and Danill Kvyat, to complete the top ten.
Fernando Alonso was P14 for McLaren, with Stoffel Vandoorne just behind – a tenth splitting the pair.
Williams' Lance Stroll caused a late red flag, ending the session prematurely as he hit the wall with his rear at Turn 10, forcing him to stop on circuit with heavy suspension damage.
