Christian Engelhart has been reunited with Lamborghini Squadra Corse as a factory driver after a five-year absence, joining the recent addition of Loris Spinelli to the GT3 driver roster.
The German last drove with the Italian manufacturer in 2018, when he left the factory driver programme although still drove with Grasser Racing Team (GRT) in the following ADAC GT Masters Championship, claiming three race victories and finishing second in the championship with teammate Mirko Bortolotti.
He competed in 110 races with his previous stint at Lamborghini, winning 14 races which included the 2019 edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona.
In 2020, he claimed the GT Masters title in an SSR Performance Porsche 911 GT3.R, with the help of Michael Ammermuller.
Earlier this year in the DTM, Engelhart participated in a one-off DTM weekend with GRT at the Hockenheim finale, whereby he finished third in Race 1.
Engelhart said: “To join Lamborghini feels like coming home and is a very emotional moment in my career.
“I have never stopped loving this iconic brand and consider myself honoured to represent and privileged to drive for Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
“Together, we already share a history of success, and I will give my utmost to build on this in the highest-level GT championships.
“There are many exciting prospects for the future, and I am more than ready to take on the next step of our journey together.”
Giorgio Sanna, Head of Motorsport, added: “We are happy to welcome back Christian in our family, we are sure that he will bring additional experience and performance to our GT3 customer teams, collaborating with Squadra Corse on the next future race cars development.”
The details of Engelhart’s 2024 programme with Lamborghini will be announced in due course, having concluded a four-season-long stint with Porsche across several global commitments in which he claimed nine race wins and 18 podium finishes.
