Felipe Massa was quickest on the opening day of the second pre-season Formula 1 test on Tuesday as he propelled his Williams to a time of 1:19.726 on the supersoft tyre, just 0.021 seconds shy of Valtteri Bottas' best time from the first test last week.
Massa also racked up the joint-first most mileage of any driver, completing 168 laps in what was a successful day for the Williams team.
The top three cars were covered by just under two-tenths as Daniel Ricciardo posted a 1:19.900 – Red Bull's best time of testing so far – with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel just 0.006 adrift in third.
Vettel matched Massa's lap tally, further proving Ferrari's solid reliability and pace, which will surely worry champions Mercedes, who had a quiet start to the fifth day as Lewis Hamilton completed just 49 laps during the morning before reporting that he was unhappy in the car.
Hamilton was fourth fastest with a best time of 1:20.456 using the soft compound tyre. Team-mate Valtteri Bottas took over in the afternoon and added a further 86 laps to Mercedes' tally for the day.
Force India's Esteban Ocon was sixth ahead of Renault's Nico Hulkenberg.
It looked as though the day would pass without a red flag, until Hulkenberg came to a halt in the final sector with just 20 seconds of the session remaining – likely pointing toward a low-fuel run for the German.
Kevin Magnussen was eighth for Haas ahead of McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne who, despite an engine change, still managed to complete 80 laps.
Pascal Wehrlein, Marcus Ericsson and Jolyon Palmer completed the timing screen from 11th to 13th.
