Williams has become the first team to post images of its 2017 Formula 1 challenger, the FW40, ahead of the start of the new season.

Formula 1 this season welcomes new regulations, focused on making cars quicker, predominantly due to increased levels of downforce and wider tyres from Pirelli.

Williams has retained the thumb-nose on the front wing, with the most striking difference being its reshaped rear wing, as the overall Martini-based livery has been kept for another season.

Williams, which finished fifth in the constructors’ championship last year, has named its 2017 car the FW40, in homage to the team’s four decades of competition in the sport.

The squad will continue to field Felipe Massa, the Brazilian having delayed his initial retirement in the wake of Valtteri Bottas’ switch to Mercedes, alongside newcomer Lance Stroll, the reigning F3 champion.

The remaining Formula 1 teams will unveil their respective challengers next week, with Sauber set to commence proceedings with images of its C36-Ferrari to be published on Monday.

Williams will officially unveil its FW40 on February 25, two days before the start of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
