Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost says the Italian outfit is in talks with a sponsor to rebrand its Renault power unit in 2017.

It would be a similar deal to the one Red Bull currently has, after it tried to find a new power unit supplier but had to go back to Renault.

The French engine manufacturer agreed a deal with Red Bull, so the power units were re-badged TAG Heuer.

Toro Rosso ran year-old Ferrari engines last year but is switching across to Renault in 2017.

Tost told Gazzetta dello Sport Toro Rosso is looking into going down a similar path to Red Bull and picking up a new sponsor to rebrand its Renault engines after.

“We have the possibility to find a title sponsor to rebrand our 2017 engine, as Red Bull did last year,” he explained.

“We're in talks with a sponsor.”

Tost added that the team’s preparations for 2017 are going well, with the car already passing crash tests. It is set to run at a filming day prior to pre-season testing.

“We're respecting the road map,” he explained about the Toro Rosso STR12.

“We did crash tests and we'll do a filming day with the new car before the start of the winter test at Barcelona.”
