Lewis Hamilton pipped team-mate Nico Rosberg to the fastest second practice time by less than a tenth as the pair square up for a title battle on Sunday.
The pair both managed to get under the 1m41s mark, but it only put them a couple of tenths clear of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel in third place.
Vettel's session didn't end on such a high however, as he reported a "gearbox failure" with just ten minutes of the session remaining.
Red Bull were fourth and fifth with Max Verstappen leading Daniel Ricciardo by just +0.001s, whilst Kimi Raikkonen was just +0.073 behind in a close top six.
Valtteri Bottas was seventh quickest from the two Force India's and team-mate Felipe Massa.
Daniil Kvyat was once again slowest after a repeat of the tyre failure he experienced in the opening session, which saw him spin-off track at Turn 18.
