Mercedes has confirmed that a member of its Formula 1 team is "shaken" but unhurt after being robbed at gunpoint in Mexico City ahead of this weekend's race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
A chaffeur-driven car containing a Mercedes team member not wearing team kit was targeted on Wednesday in Mexico City en route from the airport to the city centre.
“A team member was robbed while travelling from the airport towards the city on Wednesday when in heavy stationary traffic,” a Mercedes spokesperson said.
“Wallets and watches were taken and there were no physical injuries, but they were a little shaken up for obvious reasons.”
The victim has not been named, and has opted to remain with the rest of the Mercedes team for the Mexican Grand Prix weekend to carry out duties as normal.
