Esteban Gutierrez will know whether or not he will keep his Haas Formula 1 seat next season in the next two weeks according to team principal Guenther Steiner.
The American outfit has yet to decide on its driver line-up for 2017, but it's expected that Romain Grosjean will be retained, whilst the second seat is still up for grabs.
Grosjean has scored a total of 29 points with points finishes in five races so far, whilst Gutierrez has yet to score a single point, leading to a question mark being placed over his head.
Steiner insists no decision has yet been made, but it will be revealed very soon.
"In two weeks he will know," said Steiner. "At the moment, no. We will tell him within the next two to three weeks what we are doing. The season has almost ended anyway."
Steiner admitted reliability troubles had contributed to Gutierrez's lack of points, whilst adding that speculation about his future wouldn't help, particularly at his home race this weekend.
"I don’t really want to speculate on it this weekend. I want us to all focus on racing and also him to focus on doing the best he can this weekend.
"Last weekend again he qualified good and then in the race we had the issue with the brakes and he couldn’t show what he can do. So, my opinion, what we need to focus on this weekend is racing and not speculation about who is doing what."
