Charles Leclerc has claimed pole position for Sunday’s United States Grand Prix, edging out Lando Norris by one-tenth on Friday in Austin.
Max Verstappen had set the fastest time but had his last effort deleted for exceeding track limits, dropping him to sixth.
That promoted Leclerc, Norris, Lewis Hamilton, the second Ferrari of Carlos Sainz and George Russell to complete the top five.
Behind Verstappen came the two Alpines – Pierre Gasly ahead of Esteban Ocon – Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez and Oscar Piastri.
Neither Aston Martin driver was able to advance beyond Q1, with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll ending up 17th and 19th respectively.
